George Wind: ‘Promotion back to the National League South is the goal’

George Wind has been one of Billericay Town’s best performers this campaign in the Isthmian Premier Division. The right-back has impressed for Dan Brown’s side as the Blues currently sit in 10th place, with the aspiration to return to the Vanarama National League South at the first time of asking. Despite Billericay having had a tricky start to the season, the Blues will be looking to carry their momentum from the recent 2-0 win over Aveley into the New Year. I caught up with Wind to discuss getting first-team football, the recent win over Aveley and more.

Billericay Town currently sit in 10th place and sit five points off of the play-off places in the Isthmian Premier Division. Do you think the Blues are on the right track after a disappointing start to the campaign?

‘Yes, I believe we are on the right track and it’s now about us, as a team, finding consistency. We know we have a quality squad with all the ingredients to be successful but we just need to start showing this week in, week out. Then I believe we will really kick on.’

On Tuesday night, the Blues beat Aveley 2-0 in a feisty affair. How important do you think that victory was after a winless run in the league? And with that result, will you be looking to gain more momentum as 2023 approaches?

‘The result against Aveley was massive. It was a much-needed victory after not getting the results or performances that we would have liked and it came at a really good time where we can now build on that and gain some momentum.’

You have been a regular starter at New Lodge this season. What has it been like getting regular first-team football with the Blues?

‘It’s been really good to get regular football this year. Playing regularly really allows you to show what you can do as a player and when you know that the coaching staff have their trust and faith in you it really fills you with confidence. I’ve certainly improved as a player and I will continue to do so for the rest of the season.’

Is promotion back to the Vanarama National League South still the goal? Also, what do you hope to achieve in 2023?

‘In 2023, I hope that we can achieve something special as a team. Promotion back to the National League South is certainly still the goal and we will give it everything we can to try and fulfil this for the club and the fans.
