Billericay overcame local rivals Canvey Island in a professional performance by the Blues courtesy of Matt Price’s goal against his former side.

It was an even contest throughout and the visitors had a few chances in the opening proceedings. Jamie Salmon’s strike went straight into the hands of Harry Seaden and Canvey Island were a threat on the attack.
Billericay also had chances of their own and they could have took the lead when Bradley Stevenson’s free-kick hit the crossbar with 30 minutes played. They were the better side at the end of the first half but Dan Brown’s side could not find that clinical touch, and that showed when John Ufuah’s shot went just over
from a tight angle.
Anthony Jeffrey was causing the Gulls’ defence many problems and his powerful shot was tipped over at the beginning of the second half. He had another like that shortly after but he dragged his shot wide. The Blues had another free-kick but Brad Stevenson was unlucky as Bobby Mason saved his shot. The only goal of the game came with 70 minutes on the clock when Alfie Cerulli sprinted forwards after picking up the ball on halfway and his cross fell to Price who hit top dollar by striking past Mason.
