In Billericay Town’s opening match in the Isthmian Premier League, they earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Cray Wanderers in dramatic fashion. The visitors scored just before half-time courtesy of Dan Bassett but twenty five minutes into the second half, the Blues equalised through a Chris Dickson penalty against his former side. With five minutes remaining, a moment of brilliance from Alfie Cerulli where he fired into the bottom left hand corner ensured the Blues grabbed the three points.

But most importantly, what did the fans think of the result?

Substitutes made a huge difference, but I felt we were the better side all afternoon and limited Cray Wanderers to few chances. Fitness levels are clear to see especially in this heat and that’s what got us over the line. Fully deserved in my opinion.

Didn’t click in the first half but good we’ve already got such high expectations of this new, young squad and you saw why in the second half when the quality, character and fitness won through. Cray Wanderers are decent and this could look like an even better result by the end of the season. Important win!

A win and three points is the way to start the season, we were the better team especially in the second half. A lot of positives, fitness levels are obviously good. We can build on this and hopefully score a lot of goals. It was also good we didn’t try to defend 2-1 but continued attacking.
@BillericayStu
Disjointed and old vulnerabilities at the back showed up in the first half, although we clearly had the quality players. Rocket from Dan Brown no doubt fired us up and with a bit of luck, we ground it out. AJ (Anthony Jeffery) and (Alfie) Cerulli worked extremely hard, and midfield battled second half which was much needed.
Describing this win as a relief would be an understatement. After a miserable campaign, there are a host of positives signs at New Lodge including some of the new additions – Alfie Cerulli in particular. Dan Brown’s side will not have long to rest with a trip to Aveley on the horizon, before a trip to Potter’s Bar Town.
